Becky is the head chef at BEREKET. Becky is the executive chef for a large mortgage company in Chicago, and until recently, was apprentice to celebrity Food Network star Jeff Mauro. Under his guidance, she learned to create familiar food in new ways, exploring her own unique culinary perspective. Becky’s passion for creating exciting Ethiopian cuisine was born while she served as an assistant chef at Demera Ethiopian Restaurant on Chicago’s north side in an attempt to learn more about her native cuisine. She became fluent in traditional Ethiopian cuisine, but recognized its potential to reach a wider audience. Becky’s innovative cooking style and presentation bring a fresh perspective to family recipes to ensure that every dish she prepares truly is BEREKET—a gift.

Superb food and great company. Ethiopian cuisine and influence with a modern American twist and family style portions to share. Loved the beet salad and I normally never eat beets. Was unreal.

The food was outstanding at the Bereket Kitchen. I loved the spicy chicken with the kicked up mole-type sauce and the plate of salads was simply delicious. I also hope at some point in the future I can buy a bag of those date cookies - yum!

Delicious food and great ambiance - what a great combination. I particularly enjoyed the chicken with red sauce (it takes 2 days to make that sauce). The sweet/spicy sauce was amazing. Also, their side dishes are really noteworthy - particularly the string beans with carrots. The sirloin steak was really well cooked. And, last but not least, the tea cookies were delightful. Great presentation and great flavor. Delicately sweet and well balanced. Thanks for a great evening!

Am I allowed to give 5 stars across the board? It's very much deserved! I consider myself a foodie and I absolutely loved the first event! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was unique, and of course the company was fantastic. I hope to come to another Bereket dinner!

Eating at Bereket Kitchen was my first experience eating Ethiopian food. It was DELICIOUS! I loved how berbere was incorporated into so many dishes but each had its own unique flavor. From the ahi tuna tartare to the chicken to my favorite, the sirloin steak, it was a foodie lover's dream. I loved that the ingredients were also high quality and nutritious. The dinner ended with scrumptious cookies topped with cream and fresh fruit. I was truly impressed by the preparation, presentation, and most importantly taste, and encourage food lover's to venture to Bereket Kitchen.
