First of all, the venue was pretty cool--using a gallery space is always a fun idea. However, I was disappointed with the overall experience. I was expecting a much younger crowd; my friend and I were two of a handful of others under 35, which was awkward. Thankfully, we did not get there early... The appetizers were good, but they were extremely unfriendly to being eaten as hors d'oeuvres without plates. Given the scarcity of napkins, I was left with shrimp tails and slimy onions in my hands. Yuck. Then there was the issue of seating. Apparently everyone just decided to save their own seats, a la the movie theater. This meant that my friend and I were initially separated and forced to ask a bunch of people to move so that we could actually sit together. I bet there is a better way to arrange the seating. It was a little too competitive. Then dinner began, and the chef came out to do an introduction. Now, this is when a microphone or some other amplification system is appropriate--ear-shattering whistles are not. I am not a dog. The chef's presentation was a bit much. I don't need to know that you haven't slept in three days, thanks. These kinds of events are all about illusion. Later on this kind of barking continued, and it would have been nice if the remarks were more enlightening (since she basically repeated what was already on the written menu). The food itself was beautifully presented--I will give her points for that. Caesar salad to start? Boring. The soup was better, but the crab had an overwhelming flavor to it. Chicken florentine? Also boring. Now, I do realize that she was cooking in a temporary setup for a large group of people, but I have seen much more interesting things done with less. The s'mores idea was cute, but it was too gimmicky. It was store-bought cookies and marshmellows, albeit gourmet marshmellows (quite tasty), put on a plate with a burner. Really, I would have preferred a more spectacular single course of dessert than two. The next dessert was way too sweet and pretty sloppy looking. We were done with the whole thing at that point. It was not an experience I would repeat. I would have preferred popping over to Pete's, just a block away, for better food for less money.

My hungry valentine was this amazing magical event in this beautiful space on one of the best streets Downtown. You feel like you're with friends on a culinary adventure that is just amazing. The bathroom in this space was down the hall, but I actually didnt find that to be terrible, cause eating in a gallery was such an amazing experience.

Hats off to the chef and staff who I know faced more difficulties with limited cooking facilities, but made for a lovely pre-Valentine's affair!
